Bodu Olhu Surf Point Development: Lhohi Surf Community Calls for Immediate Action

The Bodu Olhu surf point in N. Lhohi is an important and valued location for the local surf community, holding strong potential to become a well-developed and properly facilitated surf destination in the Maldives. On 20 September 2023, during the presidential election campaign, His Excellency Mohamed Muizzu made a clear public commitment that, if elected, his administration would provide the necessary facilities to develop Bodu Olhu surf point to an international standard. Following his election victory, the President visited N. Lhohi once again on 24 July 2025, where he met with residents in an official resident meeting. During this meeting, he reaffirmed his earlier pledge and clearly stated that physical development work would begin before the end of 2025. Today, despite these commitments, there has been no visible progress on the ground, and no proper official updates have been provided regarding the status of the project. The Lhohi surf community is now respectfully calling for clarity and action. The commitments made on 20 September 2023 and reaffirmed on 24 July 2025 were clear and direct, and the expectation remains that these promises will be honored. Bodu Olhu surf point represents not only a place of recreation but also an opportunity for community growth, youth engagement, and the strengthening of surf culture in the Maldives. The development of proper facilities would greatly enhance the experience for local surfers and visitors alike, while contributing positively to the island. The Lhohi surf community is therefore urging the Government of the Maldives to: Provide a clear and immediate official update on the current status of the project Commence physical development work without further delay Ensure that the project is completed as promised This is a commitment that was made directly to the people.
